We’ve written before about music service Audiomack’s popularity in Africa, but another high-potential market is also in its sights: India and south Asia.
The company has signed a licensing deal with Indian music firm Saregama that will add thousands of film-music and regional-language tracks toits catalogue.
This builds on Audiomack’s existing catalogue of Indian music, with the company saying it generates more than 160m monthly streams of Punjabi music already – 77.5m of which are in Canada, a key diaspora territory.
However, Audiomack also says that it has more than 200,000 monthly active users in India, and growing listeners for south Asian music in Pakistan, Bangladesh and the UK.
“The addition of Saregama’s diverse front-line and legacy catalog allows us to better curate the rich musical tapestry that is South Asian music, bringing both classic and contemporary Indian music to fans worldwide,” said its south Asian music curation lead Akash Raje.
